LOVE this place! Fantastic breakfast. Scones are to die for - they're absolutely delicious with the yummy jam. Eggs were okay - had joes special with a very delicious tangerine juice. Service was eh - had to ask for my juice twice. Very nice people though. It was packed for a 10am breakfast on a Thursday with a wait so plan on that. Love the outdoor seating and the neighborhood. Wonderful experience.

    Love the stuffed french toast!

Excellent food and only a 5 minute wait on a Saturday morning.

My favorite breakfast place of all time. Though every dish is amazing, I can never get enough of the fried egg sandwich and rosemary potatoes. It also helps that the staff is extremely friendly, and the atmosphere is cute and homey.

Good food. Good ambience. Perfect brunch place except that you don't want to go at typical brunch hours--unless you want to wait 30 min, at least. Outdoor sitting with tree shades is good enough to keep me in a up-mood.

Hands down, best brunch I've ever had. The California omelet (with bacon, guac, sour cream & gruyere) and the fruit plate with strawberry creme fraiche were both phenomenal!

Every time we visit La Jolla, we'll make sure to visit here. Great place for breakfast. The French toast is amazing.

I had a great experience but i still don't get all the raving reviews. The wait wasn't too bad for a Sunday brunch and yes- their delicious coffee cake sure helps the time go by - but was their french toast absolutely wonderful? I'd skip and go to Brockton Villa if french toast is what you're hankering. The polenta benedict was very delicious and was put together well. On the table of 4 ppl - I would have to say my entree was the most interesting. My husband had a salad and was not very impressed. Service was great though! Definitely warrants a second visit for that alone.

French toast is so good and the portions are pretty large. Make sure to sit outside it gets pretty hot inside and the outside seating area is cute. Great customer service, parking is on the street I believe so you might have to go around a bit. Only down side are the prices, not as high as some other places but higher than others. Overall worth it and I will definitely be back!

We came here on a late Wednesday morning around 11am, only waited about 10 minutes for a table for two. Street parking was also easy to find, I would say one hour parking would be more than enough. But we did notice the SDPD going around marking cars all over the place. Had their eggs La Jolla benedicts and stuffed French Toast with strawberries and bananas. Both were good, nothing very special in my opinion. But good place to grab breakfast/brunch if you are in the area. The only thing I didn't like were the four flies on the window screen beside our table and then hovering over/landing on our breakfast.

The food here is AMAZING! This review is based on service alone. Tried ordering coffee when being seated...the food comes..still no coffee so I ask again....another 15min goes by...coffee still MIA. Finally I wave down a different server and request that we FINALLY get the freaking coffee. Original terrible server finally brings out mugs and carafe (we are finished eating at this point) no apology or explanation and I get charged 6$ for coffee we didn't get a chance to drink.. Time to hire a new staff.

Went for a late lunch. Chicken tortilla house soup was very fresh tasting, like everything else our group of 6 had. Iced tea was great, too. I had crabcake greens salad with corn vinaigrette - wonderful! Jus added a bit of pepper and it was perfect. Sandwiches on ciabatta were great, but only came with potato salad. Server always made sure our glasses were full and our table was clean. BE SURE to save room for dessert - amazingly tasty and well presented. We had them all - chocolate pudding, bread pudding, and peanut butter pie... Yum!

Fresh homemade guacamole & pico de gallo. Delicious. And forget benedict, eggs la jolla is the way to go. What a treat!

Standard brunch place. It's pretty, in the village, downtown La Jolla and the wait can be long, but worth it to experience it. The stuffed French toast is a good and the second time I think I split some sort of scramble and club sandwich with a friend. Everything is good, and prices are okay for a nicer brunch place. Very popular with UCSD students, expect tons of picture taking from people around you...a must try if you're in the area and want a cute brunch spot. After, you can go to the beach or walk around dtown La Jolla and work off the carbs!

Hands down one of the best brunch spots I have been to. This place was super busy on Sunday, but def worth the wait. They had coffee and cinnamon crumb cake outside for folks who are waiting for a table. Everything we had was great. They even different flavored mimosas - we got the tangerine. Both items we tried (Tuscan scramble and grilled chicken sandwich) were amazing!

  • Adam N.

Everything was excellent. From the extremely friendly host to the amazing eggs benedict special with crab meat and real fruit smoothie, it was all great! Will be coming back soon.

Stuff French toast were amazing!!!! The place is a bit small but the wait time wasn't that bad .... Very friendly service!!!

This place is pretty good. Went for sunday brunch with a group of 6 and waited a little over an hour. There were alot of people outside waiting and they did put out coffee, water and crumbcake? out for the people waiting but I wish they would have a system where we give them our cell phone numbers and they can just text us when our table is almost ready. The sidewalk was packed and uncomfortable. The food was good. I had the baja hash. It was awkward and messy to eat but I liked it.

Good location. Nice patio. Excellent food and service. Fried egg sandwich. Perfect over medium with gruyere, bacon & arugula on sourdough. Sarah had the chilaquiles. Everything was perfect. I even finished the kids oatmeal and banana pancakes. I'm sure this place is ridiculous on weekends. We went on a Monday & it was packed. Highly recommended!

Portions were huge! We had the stuffed french toast with strawberries and bananas as well as the crab cakes benedict. Very tasty stuff.

  • Helen G.

Service is good, parking can be a pain and it can get crowded so expect a wait. The Eggs La Jolla is good but their was a bit too much sauce on it for me.

  • John C.

Was SO looking forward to trying this based on the Yelp reviews and photos, but man did we get skunked. We ordered two plates of the stuffed French toast topped with fruit, and man did it taste rank. I don't know if the strawberries went bad, if they were sliced on a cutting board with onions or if it was something else. I still can not forget that foul taste. My kids couldn't eat theirs either. Our server never came by to check on us, so we couldn't ask her what went wrong. I gave an extra star because I imagine our experience was bad luck and not the norm. Yuk!

This is a must do for breakfast if you're anywhere near La Jolla! The food is fresh and high end type breakfast choices abound. Even the bus people are attentive, giving women a hook from which to hang their purses from the table-and they usually offer one without having to be asked. There is quite a wait Sat and Sun, so try to get there as early as possible. Don't miss the fresh squeezed juices.

Fantastic. We had breakfast two times at The Cottage during our stay in La Jolla and both times we were simply blown away with the quality of food and the service. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a breakfast spot in or near La Jolla. Sitting outside was fabulous too. I recommend getting there early cause the line waiting for tables starts around 8:30ish. We got there super early both morning so worked out fine for us.

Not worth the hype but still very good. The line here is super long even in odd hours and days (we went at like 2 pm on a Wednesday) that being said they provides with cinnamon pumpkin bread. The cottage is known for its eggs Benedict so we got that with polenta and sausage. Portions are pretty good (im kinda fat so it didn't really fill me but that's besides the point) food comes along with potatoes too.

I can say the most creative brunch I have ever had in San Diego. The foods are very artistic, they are supper beautiful and well decorated and also delicious. Very nice for having a brunch in weekends with close friends or family. It depend on the time you are going there but in the weekends morning, consider between 30-60 min for waiting in the line.

  • Tan P.

Great selection of food and coffee. I love any of the eggs Benedicts. The wait can be long on weekend mornings but we'll worth it. Doesn't get too loud though. Quite cosy and cute setup. The Cottage coffee is excellently brewed.

The wait is pretty long, but the food and service are def worth it. My GF and I shared the chilaquiles and tangerine juice-- my son had the LA Burger, and we loved it. The scones with the home made marmalade, the tangerine mimosa and the grilled burger, left us wanting to try some more. Love love love!

Their crab cakes are phenomenal. That's really all I have of importance to say about this place. If nothing else on the menu sounds good, do yourself a favor and just try the crab cakes. Nothing else in life compares to how delicious they are.

My husband took me on a mini vacation to La Jolla. We had a late breakfast at The Cottage because he was very impressed with the food as well as service the last time we were here. Parking was easy (because it was a Monday) and we got a table outside right away. We both started off with iced tea. As an appetizer we had their seared ahi, came out fairly quickly. It was a good portion, served with fried won ton skins, tasty and great starter. My husband ordered an omelette and I had a chicken sandwich. Both came out pipping hot and delicious! Service was great and prices are reasonable! Another satisfying experience! We will definitely come back next time we are in town!

I've been here twice and both times I was not disappointed. The food here is very fresh and they have healthy options! I believe the first time I got the Tuna on Multigrain which was superb. The second time I went for the Tuna filled Avocado with quinoa. Super tasty and fresh. It gets pretty busy on the weekends for breakfast so expect about a 30+ minute wait. You will definitely come out with a food coma, unless you have a well for a stomach.

The last thing I want to do in the morning is wait. For anything. Especially coffee or food. And so The Cottage is by far my worst nightmare. I don't get it. Why did we have to wait so long? It's just breakfast people. Go one time and never come back so that others who have never been can go. Sheesh.

  • Glenn G.

Another amazing breakfast spot! So good it gets super busy here on the weekends!

My girlfriend and I came here on a Friday morning. The outdoor patio was crowded, but we were seated immediately. Apparently this place has long waits on weekends, so come on the weekday if possible. This place was amazing. Actually, I should be saying the stuffed french toast was amazing. I've had french toast at some upscale gourmet restaurants (no names), and this beats them all. If you like french toast, you MUST try it here. They include bananas, strawberries, syrup, and butter to satisfy any french-toast lover out there. I'd like to come back to try the other things on the menu, but I know I'll inevitably order the stuffed french toast again. Try it!

The place looked packed and it had really good reviews so we gave it a go. The Mexican hot chocolate was fantastic and the food portions generous. I had the ricotta stuffed french toast and, although it looked absolutely scrumptious, the taste was a quite bland :-( Price-wise, it was average but the bland food just doesn't make me want to rush back...

So everyone is asking if it is worth the wait and the answer is YES!!! The food was amazing. The coffee cake was great. My wife had the French toast and it was great. I even had the classic breakfast and it was worth it. The service was great and the building is really cute.

Love this place for breakfast, we eat here every time as come to La Jolla. Totally worth the wait!

The tangerine mimosa is sooooo good. The stuffed waffles were really good and the portion was very generous so I recommend splitting it unless you're starving. The egg scramble was also really good. The wait to get a table was a bit long which was a bit surprising because it was a Monday.

  • Jackie C.

Hands down my favorite brunch spot. The service is amazing, everyone is so happy & loves to make your dining experience above average. You must get the fruit & yogurt dip for the table & might as well get yourself a mimosa ;) My absolute favorite is the eggs Benedict la Jolla. The combo of mushrooms, sun dried tomato in a balsamic reduction is A PARTY IN MY MOUTH. The French toast is insane & the omelets are the fluffiest things you could ever imagine. There is always a line, so go put your name on the list and go do some shopping around la Jolla

Visited THE COTTAGE for brunch last week on 7/30/15 and OMG the food here was AMAZING! I had a yummy tangerine mimosa along with the chilaquiles. I will most def add this place to the top of my "to eat" places when visiting La Jolla because it was worth the wait!

  • Tina S.

So quaint little place and the customer service is very good. My personal favorite is the crab cakes benedict! We always take our friends visiting from out of town here and every single one of them loves it. There will be wait during weekends but the free coffee and coffee cakes makes it all worth while. Go and check it out!!

Been here twice now and both times have had the Mimosas! And they're just delicious! Had the Lemon Ricotta pancakes with blueberries and Wild Mushroom Omelette with my girlfriends after working a night shift and my gosh it hit the spot! Came back months later when my friend Emily moved here from Maryland after we hiked and it was just fabulous! I got the Crab cake Benedict and they even had Old Bay! For you Marylanders out there, this place gave MD a run for their money in the way of crab cakes. Not a cheap breakfast but definitely a must have if you're ever in La Jolla!

Came here for Sunday brunch and the wait was more than an hour long for a party of 4 around 1030am. However,The food and service were well worth the wait. Our waitress was attentive and very friendly! We ordered the classic French toast, country French toast, soy chorizo eggs Benedict, and the waitress offered to split the special of the day and the stuffed French toast for our last order. Parking can be a little tough as it is street parking and be prepared to wait to eat! Though they did have free coffee and coffee cake on the side while you wait.

this place left me speechless in how delicious it was. French stuff toast with fresh strawberries and bananas was heavenly! Tangerine juice was refreshing and perfect. Eggs benedicts were delightful as well. Worth the wait. Great, pleasant venue. Will definitely revisit when I am in town again.

This place is amazing. From the quaint restaurant down to the food The Cottage hit every mark possible. The wait time on a Sunday afternoon (around 1:30) was 55+ minutes, took us 20 min to get seated. Our server was cool, little hard to hear but she made up for it when she gave us our drinks for free. Got the Stuffed French Toast, best I've ever tasted. Shared the Tuscan scramble very good choice, everything was balanced (not too much of anything). Price for that good of food is very affordable. Goin back soon!
